Felix Baumgartner is an American astronaut, engineer, and businessman who achieved the feat of becoming the first person to fly solo and unassisted from space. He achieved this feat on May 17, 2012, when he launched from the Vomit2 in outer space. Baumgartner set the goal of breaking the sound barrier by flying without the use of a parachute. He achieved this feat by flying from the Vomit2, which was attached to a hot air balloon, to an altitude of more than 100,000 feet (30 kilometers). This flight was a significant achievement, as it was the first time a person had flown solo from space without using a parachute.
